Today we present Warren Cole Smith’s interview with Liberty University English Professor Karen Swallow Prior about her new book, “On Reading Well: Finding the Good Life through Great Books.”
Professor Swallow Prior makes the case that reading great works of literature such as “Tom Jones,” “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” “the Great Gatsby,” or the short stories of Flannery O’Connor can teach and help cultivate in us a desire for the good life: that is a life of virtue. But she also tells us it’s critical that we understand the form, the voice, and the point of view presented in the works as well.
Warren Cole Smith conducted this interview with Karen Swallow Prior for “Listening In,” a weekly program of WORLD News Group. To learn more about “Listening in,” go to www.wng.org/listeningin.
